How Petaes handles your account and shared documents.

What is saved

Petaes stores your name, email, password hash, account sessions, API key hashes, document details, and uploaded files. Document openings and downloads are recorded so the sender can follow their handoff. Recipient email is optional and is used as a label in the sender’s workspace. It does not send an email.

Who can open a document

Anyone who has an active access code or sharing link can open its document. A recipient email label does not verify the recipient’s identity. Share codes only with intended recipients. Codes expire after the period selected by the sender and can be revoked earlier.

Where your data lives

The hosted Petaes service runs on its own AWS server in the United States (Northern Virginia). Files are kept in the application database, outside the public website directory. HTTPS protects the connection to the website. The service does not offer end-to-end encryption.

Cookies and external services

Petaes uses one essential session cookie to keep you signed in. It has no advertising or third-party analytics scripts. The server uses a visitor’s IP address for request limits and keeps operational access logs. If you choose to open a shared external link, that website handles its own data and cookies.

Your language preference is saved in your browser.

Revocation, logs and backups

Revoking a code blocks future access through Petaes. It cannot remove a document already downloaded by a recipient. Revocation does not delete the database copy. Accounts and files remain stored until removed by the site operator. Individual document events are retained for up to 30 days; aggregate open counts remain with the document. Daily database backups are retained for seven days on the server.

Workspace limits

You can upload files up to 8 MB, with a limit of 64 MB and 500 documents per account. Account recovery and email delivery are not available yet. Keep your password and copies of your original documents safe.
